5 Tips for Taking Beautiful Newborn Photos at the Hospital

I can’t even believe that our sweet baby girl will be two months old so soon! Time is flying by so fast, and I’m just trying to soak it all in. Stay little, Kinley Katherine.

I’m so happy that we have our newborn photos from the hospital to remind us of that special day. It truly feels like a blur now, because it all flew by in a second. I strongly recommend capturing these images that will last a lifetime.

During our hospital stay, we scheduled a photo shoot with Bella Baby Photography . They are on-site at hospitals throughout the country including the one we delivered in.

We couldn’t have been happier with our experience with Bella Baby. The whole shoot only took around 15 minutes, and we received our photos just 30 minutes later. Our photographer was so sweet and helped to pose us with baby to make sure that our photos turned out beautiful. The best part was that the actual photo session was complimentary. You don’t need to make the decision to purchase until you’re presented with the photo proofs.

After our wonderful experience, I’m sharing with you five tips for taking beautiful newborn photos at the hospital.

  1. Plan outfits ahead. When packing your hospital bag, you’ll want to think about an outfit (or two) for baby and also what you and your husband will wear as well. Everyone doesn’t have to match, but you’ll want colors that coordinate together. Swaddle sets are perfect for baby. Amazon has some really cute ones. I loved wearing a robe. It was super simple to throw on and forgiving for my newly postpartum bod. Here’s where you can find the robe I wore… it comes in a bunch of colors!
  2. Bring props. There’s no better way to personalize your newborn photos than to bring along a few props for the experience. Whether you choose to use a letter board with baby’s birth details or even a basket with a blanket knitted by someone special, having a personal touch can be really sweet. If hubby is a big sports fan, use something to represent his favorite team.  Maybe there’s something significant to you as a couple.  Anything goes!
  3. Include the whole family. If you’re a second time Mommy, why not include your first born in the photos? I cannot wait for the day that Kinley will be a big sister. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to photograph baby meeting his/her siblings for the first time.
  4. Make sure baby has a full tummy. Be sure to feed baby right before your photographer is scheduled. I learned this lesson the hard way. Real truth… I actually find the photos she cried in still adorable! Her sweet little cry.
  5. Take time for yourself and ask for a helping hand. Okay Mama, you’re going to be exhausted, but spend some time on yourself before the shoot. When the nurses ask you if you want to get up and shower, do it! You’ll feel like a new woman. Blow dry your hair, put on a little bit of makeup. You certainly don’t have to go crazy, but you’ll be so happy you did. I would also recommend having a family member or friend come in before the shoot. It can be so helpful to have an extra set of hands when everyone is getting ready to go.
